Corrugated board manufacturer calls on NISKAE to install SW2000 station

Our Customer, a leader and expert in the field of corrugated board manufacturing in Quebec, offers its customers tailor-made products, earning it a privileged position in the industry. Nevertheless, corrugated board production requires the use of large volumes of water, particularly for gluer washing operations. Wishing to benefit from a responsible solution enabling it to discharge its washing water in full compliance, our Customer entrusted NISKAE with the mission of meeting this challenge.

High water destruction costs that can be remedied

No less than 2,000L of wastewater, generated by the cleaning of production equipment and polluted mainly by glue residues, are generated daily by the production of corrugated board. Disposal and reprocessing costs are high, averaging $500 per m3, and require the intervention of an industrial waste contractor. Fortunately, NISKAE’s micro wastewater treatment plants can be used to remedy these expenses, ensuring that wash water is treated and discharged into the sewer system independently and in full compliance with regulations.

A specific, highly effective range of flocculants for glue washing water

Every year, NISKAE’s laboratory experts respond to numerous requests for the treatment of adhesive wash water. Based on tests and analyses carried out in our laboratory and on site, the most suitable coagulant-flocculant formulation has been identified. A single, ready-to-use water treatment reagent, including a pH buffer, is used. No pH neutralization is required, considerably simplifying the water treatment process.

Tests carried out by our experts have resulted in a clear, transparent filtrate made up of non-sticky, easily dewaterable sludge. Physico-chemical treatment, starting at a minimum dosage of 0.5 g/L, enables heavy metals such as iron to be reduced from 2.81 mg/L to 0.25 mg/L, and a neutral pH to be maintained throughout the treatment process. Once the final sample has been obtained, the flotation of the adhesive residues, which are easy to remove, enables the wash water to be discharged in compliance with regulatory standards.

NISKAE sets up a SW2000 station adapted to the needs and expectations of its Customer

In view of our customer’s requirements, NISKAE is proposing a SW2000 treatment plant enabling the company to carry out the water treatment process in complete autonomy, from storage to discharge, while complying with current regulations.

The proposed plant is fully automatic, providing 2000L treatment batches, and equipped with all the safety features required for safe industrial operation.
It includes a buffer tank for mixing and homogenizing wastewater prior to treatment. The buffer tank incorporates an all-stainless steel submersible pump and ultrasonic level control.

Autonomous management of wash water means significant savings for our customer

Our customer was able to benefit from NISKAE’s expertise in industrial water treatment, with a latest-generation, highly efficient coagulant reagent and a water treatment plant tailored to its needs. The company can now discharge its wash water in full compliance, without having to manage the storage of hazardous materials, and without the need for external pumping operations. The proposed water treatment solution delivers significant annual savings for our customer, with a reduction of almost 200%. As a result, our customer will realize savings of over $350,000 over the next 5 years, enabling it to invest more sustainably in its corrugated board production activities.
