Installation of a water treatment station for washing water loaded with glue

Our client is a manufacturer of doors and interior joinery. Each day on the production line, a wood veneer is glued on the particle boards. The gluing machine must be cleaned with clear water at the end of each day. Our client has chosen the "green" solution rather than storing the wastewater in bulky storage tanks and having it later transported to a disposal plant.

A necessary change for the environment

Our client is a manufacturer of doors and interior joinery. Wood veneer is glued on particle boards on the production line on a daily basis. At the end of the day, the gluing machine needs to be cleaned and rinsed with clear water.

In order to protect the environment, our client decided to equip itself with a water treatment and recycling system that would treat its cleaning water loaded with glue, to stock the clear water obtained after the treatment and to re-use it again to wash its gluing machine.

The ‘green’ solution implemented by Niskae

NISKAE has set up a SW200 water treatment and recycling unit SW200 with a 200 L/h flow, largely meeting the volume of wastewater from 200 to 400 liters per week. All the equipment was installed in a site of just 3.75 m2 in this factory where the space was rather restricted! An electrical resistance was installed at the bottom of the storage tank, ensuring 40 degree Celsius and facilitating the cleaning of the gluing machine. The station is also equipped with a touch screen control panel which allows monitoring the reactor’s state as well as the level of each tank.

How does the treatment station work

Through a piping network connecting the gluing machine to the SW200 treatment station, the glue-loaded wash water is collected in a 500 liters’ wastewater storage tank equipped with an agitator that prevents sediment deposits. A submersible pump in the tank makes it possible to transport the wastewater into the reactor of the station. After the treatment, the sludge is emptied into a filtration box placed under the reactor. The sludge obtained is non-sticky and perfectly dehydratable. The clear waters from the treatment are stored in a 500 L tank and send back to the gluing machine with a booster pump for following washings. An electrical resistance installed at the bottom of the clear water tank allows the water to be heated to a temperature up to 40 ° C to facilitate the cleaning of the gluing machine. The station is also equipped with a touch screen control panel to monitor the reactor’s status as well as the tanks’ levels.

Results and benefits

Water treatment and recycling system in a closed circuit

The same water is reused to wash the gluing machine.

No stagnant wastewater in bulky storage tanks

A plus for the environment

  • No piping rejections
  • No wastewater transport therefore no carbon dioxide emissions
  • Minimized spillage risk during storage and transport
